Point of Care Laboratory
Abaxis was founded in 1989 and started to develop and manufacture a biochemical analyzer that was capable of performing multiple blood tests from a single drop of whole blood. Since 1995, they have manufactured the Piccolo analyzer for human use and the VetScan chemistry and hematology analyzers, as well as rapid tests for the veterinary market. The Piccolo now has 16 different assays that test over 30 different chemistries, including complete and basic metabolic panels, kidney and liver function panels, CRP, bilirubin, and lipid panels.
